Salisbury St Thomas: Eyre monuments
This pair of fine C17 polychromed alabaster monuments stands at the east end of the Lady Chapel. They had been coated with a dark tinted varnish in the C19; the varnish had since further discoloured, concealing the original painted surface. The varnish was removed, revealing the vibrant colours of paint, gilding and stone and exquisite details such as the panels of weepers.
