The Acland monument, a large 17th century polychromed limestone and alabaster monument, was damaged and unstable at canopy level, and had been overpainted crudely in the 20th century. The canopy was dismantled, repaired and re-erected, and the unsightly overpaint removed to reveal the earlier paint schemes.
We are specialists in the repair and conservation of church monuments, ranging from medieval effigies and tombs to nineteenth century marble cantilevered monuments. Work may include dismantling and structural repair, relocation and isolation or analysis and stabilisation of polychrome surface layers.
