The Memorial Figure of 1947 is recognised as one of Moore's most moving and evocative pieces. It was commissioned by the Elmhirsts, owners of Dartington Hall, and placed with great care so as to blend with the surrounding landscape. Minor areas of deterioration were treated and some accretions of moss and soil were carefully removed, without impinging on the patina of lichen and weather that was so important for Moore.
Conservation of statuary and carved stone detail is a major element of our work. We are experienced in dealing with the problems of a wide variety of stone types, including limestone and sandstone, slate, marble and alabaster. Work ranges from sensitive surface repair and cleaning to structural repair and may be site based or undertaken in the workshop.
